| Geneva, Switzerland, March 27, 2007 – SpinX Technologies, a
privately-held provider of innovative technology to perform
bioassays in the life sciences sector, today announced that it
has been nominated Red Herring 100 Europe prize winner. The
Red Herring 100 Europe award recognises the 100 finest private
companies in Europe that the magazine judges to be leading the
way through innovation and technology. This prize follows the
inclusion of SpinX Technologies in the list of finalists for
the Swiss Technology Awards, and in the Swiss Tech Tour 2007,
underlining the promise that this start-up shows in the field
of nanoliter scale liquid handling and assay detection.
“The recognition given to us by Red Herring, Swiss
Technology Award and the organisers of the Swiss Tech Tour
2007 confirms the value of our technology to the diagnostics
and drug development markets,” said Bart Van de Vyver, Founder
of SpinX and CEO. “Our product represents a breakthrough
approach to liquid handling that decreases the required volume
of precious reagents, compounds and samples to nanoliters and
increases the flexibility of how those assay components can be
metered, combined and incubated. On-chip detection can be
performed on hundreds of samples simultaneously. Research
facilities can thus be more productive as their experiments
gain in flexibility.”
SpinX has patented and developed the Virtual Laser Valve
technology, enabling complex assays to be performed in
nanoliter volumes. This technology brings a level of
flexibility to liquid handling previously unavailable in
automated systems. The market for automated liquid handling
and assay detection in the life sciences sector is valued at
approximately US$2 billion.
Red Herring is known for its skill in selecting the most
exciting, well-managed and innovative companies in technology
today. The Swiss Technology Award, which SpinX received, is
given to exceptionally innovative technology projects,
spin-offs and start-ups based in Switzerland. SpinX
Technologies is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and has offices
in the United States.
