gCards and gStacks
The SpinX solution consists of:

  • Microfluidic gCards™, which are organized into a gStack™
  • Spinx Lab, a bench-top instrument;
  • SpinXplorer™ and AssayStudio™ control and assay setup software.
  • gCards and gStacks

The SpinX gStack™ is the interface between the SpinX Lab and the user’s liquid handling system. Each gStack is composed of 12 gCards held in a frame (see below). The gStack presents the user with an interface with the same dimensions as a 384-deep well plate, enabling the use of standard microliter-volume liquid dispensing instruments.

The gCard™ is a disposable plastic microfluidic device.  Each card has 32 reservoirs, with well-to well dimensions identical to those of the wells in a standard 384-well microplate. The inputs are situated on the edge of the card, which occupies the same surface as two columns in a 384-well plate.

Each gCard has over 500 chambers and thousands of channels, which are connected together during each run at precise locations and times to dilute, mix and incubate assay components. Connections are created using the VLV technology and liquids are moved using centrifugal force. Unique to SpinX Lab, all chambers can be read concurrently using common fluorescence homogenous detection modes in either end-point or kinetic mode.

The number of data points obtained depends on the complexity of the assay. For panels with many dilution and addition steps, most of the assay chambers are required for liquid handling operations. Conversely, for panels with few liquid handling operations, more data points can be prepared in a single gCard.
